Exception handling enables programmers to foresee and skillfully handle unanticipated faults and extraordinary conditions that may arise while the program is running.

Your Java programming abilities can reach new heights by comprehending and putting into practice efficient exception-handling approaches, which range from fundamental syntax to sophisticated methodologies. We’ll delve into the subtleties of exception handling in Java through this extensive guide, which covers everything from fundamental ideas to industry best practices and practical implementations.

Understanding Exceptions in Java

In Java, an exception is an event that disrupts the normal flow of program execution. Exceptions can arise due to various reasons, including programming errors, hardware failures, and unexpected input. Java classifies exceptions into two main categories: checked exceptions and unchecked exceptions.

  • Checked Exceptions: Checked exceptions are exceptions that must be either caught or declared by the method using the throws clause. Examples include IOException, FileNotFoundException, and SQLException.
  • Unchecked Exceptions: Unchecked exceptions, also known as runtime exceptions, do not need to be explicitly caught or declared. They are typically programming errors that occur at runtime, such as NullPointerException, ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException, and ArithmeticException.

1. The Try-Catch Block: Handling Exceptions Gracefully

The try-catch block is a fundamental construct in Java for handling exceptions. It allows developers to enclose code that may throw exceptions within a try block and provide exception-handling logic in subsequent catch blocks.

java

try {

    // Code that may throw an exception

    // Example: File I/O operations, database queries

} catch (ExceptionType1 e1) {

    // Exception handling logic for ExceptionType1

} catch (ExceptionType2 e2) {

    // Exception handling logic for ExceptionType2

} finally {

    // Optional block for cleanup code

}

The Finally Block: Resource Cleanup and Finalization

The finally block is used to execute cleanup code that should be run regardless of whether an exception occurs or not. Common use cases for the finally block include closing files, releasing database connections, and releasing other system resources.

2. Exception Propagation: Delegating Exception Handling

In Java, exceptions can be propagated up the call stack until they are caught or reach the top-level exception handler. This allows for centralized exception handling at higher levels of the program, providing a unified approach to managing exceptional conditions.

3. Exception Handling Best Practices

  • To ensure effective exception handling in Java applications, developers should adhere to the following best practices:
  • Use Specific Exception Types: Catch exceptions at the appropriate level of granularity by using specific exception types rather than catching generic Exception objects.
  • Log Exception Details: Always log exception details, including the exception type, stack trace, and context information, to aid in troubleshooting and debugging.
  • Handle Exceptions Appropriately: Handle exceptions gracefully by providing meaningful error messages to users, logging exceptions for analysis, and taking appropriate corrective actions when possible.
  • Follow Try-With-Resources: When working with resources that implement the AutoCloseable interface (e.g., streams, database connections), use the try-with-resources statement to automatically close resources after use, ensuring proper cleanup and resource management.

4. Custom Exception Classes: Enhancing Error Handling

Java allows developers to define custom exception classes to represent specific error conditions or application-specific exceptions. Custom exceptions extend the standard Java exception classes and can provide additional context and semantics to exception handling.

class CustomException extends Exception {

    public CustomException(String message) {

        super(message);

    }

}

Developers can distinguish between various problem kinds and give users and system administrators more insightful error messages and information by crafting unique exception classes.

5. Techniques for Managing Exceptions: Defensive Programming

To handle exceptions effectively, proactive measures must be taken to stop, identify, and address mistakes before they happen. Input validation, error checking, and defensive coding techniques are examples of defensive programming approaches that reduce the possibility of exceptions and increase the resilience of applications.

Defensive null-checking, user input validation, and precondition testing before performing crucial actions are a few techniques that can be used to find possible fault circumstances and stop exceptions from spreading.

6. Patterns for Handling Exceptions: Responsibility Chain

Java applications can use the Chain of Responsibility pattern, a behavioral design pattern, for handling exceptions. This pattern handles exceptions by sequentially invoking numerous handlers, each of which is in charge of handling a particular class of exception or set of error conditions.

abstract class ExceptionHandler {

    private ExceptionHandler successor;

    public void setSuccessor(ExceptionHandler successor) {

        this.successor = successor;

    }

    public void handleException(Exception exception) {

        if (successor != null) {

            successor.handleException(exception);

        }

    }

    abstract void handle(Exception exception);

}

By implementing the Chain of Responsibility pattern, developers can create flexible and extensible exception-handling pipelines that dynamically adapt to changing error conditions and requirements.

7. Asynchronous Exception Handling: Completable Future

With the introduction of CompletableFuture in Java 8, developers have more options for handling exceptions in asynchronous and concurrent programming scenarios. CompletableFuture provides methods for handling exceptions, composing asynchronous tasks, and managing execution dependencies fluently and expressively.

CompletableFuture.supplyAsync(() -> {

    // Asynchronous computation

    return result;

}).exceptionally(ex -> {

    // Exception handling logic

    return defaultValue;

});

BCompletableFuture, when combined with exception handling features such as Exceptional handlers and try-catch blocks, allows developers to create asynchronous systems that are fault-tolerant and robust, allowing them to gracefully accept mistakes and failures.

8. Testing Mocking and Unit Testing for Exception Handling

  • Software testing and quality assurance need testing of exception handling code. To verify how exception handling logic behaves in various error scenarios and conditions, unit tests can be written.
  • Mocking frameworks: Mockito, PowerMock, and others can be used to mimic exceptions, manage the actions of external dependencies, and confirm that exceptions are handled correctly in unit tests.
  • Developers can find and fix possible vulnerabilities, corner cases, and error scenarios early in the development lifecycle by including exception handling tests in the overall testing approach.

Conclusion

Applications of Exception Handling in the Real World

In many different fields and sectors of the software development industry, exception management is an essential component. Effective exception handling is essential to maintaining the dependability, robustness, and availability of software systems in real-world applications. Here are some real-world instances of exception handling in action:

  • Web Application Development: Errors that arise during request processing, database access, and external service integration are handled by exception handling in web application development. Maintaining a seamless user experience and making troubleshooting easier are two benefits of using custom error pages and exception logging systems.
  • Enterprise Application Integration: To handle communication breakdowns, data validation problems, and service interruptions across dispersed systems in enterprise application integration (EAI) scenarios, exception handling is crucial. In complex integration environments, robust exception handling systems facilitate transaction management, message redelivery, and system recovery.
  • Financial Systems: Exception handling is essential for managing transaction mistakes, network outages, and data integrity concerns in financial systems and trading platforms. In high-stakes financial contexts, real-time alerting, monitoring, and failover methods guarantee continuous operation and regulatory compliance.
  • IoT and Embedded Systems: Hardware failures, sensor malfunctions, and communication mistakes are handled by exception handling in IoT (Internet of Things) and embedded systems. In resource-constrained contexts, graceful degradation, fault tolerance, and remote diagnostics all contribute to system uptime and reliability.

Conclusion

A fundamental idea in Java programming, exception management enables programmers to create durable, dependable, and powerful software. Developers may safely handle exceptional conditions and guarantee the stability and integrity of their Java programs by grasping the fundamentals of exception handling, becoming proficient with the syntax and semantics of exception handling techniques, and following best practices.

Developers can confidently negotiate the challenges of software development and provide high-quality solutions that satisfy users and stakeholders when they have a firm grasp of exception management approaches.

Foreign investors become net buyers in Indian stocks in February https://indiapost.com/foreign-investors-become-net-buyers-in-indian-stocks-in-february/ Thu, 29 Feb 2024 04:48:23 +0000 https://indiapost.com/?p=190519 NEW DELHI: Foreign portfolio investors who had aggressively sold Indian stocks and turned net sellers in the Indian equity market in January 2024, now again became net buyers in February.

The latest data available from the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) showed that the FPIs bought stocks worth Rs 2,928 crore so far in February, after selling equities worth Rs 24,734 crore in January.

“The resilience of the market is preventing the FPIs from selling aggressively despite attractive bond yields in the US,” said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, at Geojit Financial Services, recently.

The foreign portfolio sold aggressively in January after making a beeline to accumulate domestic stocks during the prior two months–November and December.

In December, they accumulated stocks worth Rs 66,135 crore. In November, the FPI inflow was Rs 9,001 crore, NSDL data showed.

To put it into context, the entire year saw an inflow of about Rs 171,107 crore, and notably, over one-third of it came in December. The strong inflow of funds from foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) had then supported the benchmark stock indices to march towards all-time highs.

Before November, FPI participation in Indian stocks was lukewarm, and they had turned net sellers. They sold Rs 14,768 crore and Rs 24,548 crore, in September and October, respectively.

Before that, FPIs bought Indian stocks worth Rs 7,936 crore, Rs 11,631 crore, Rs 43,838 crore, Rs 47,148 crore, Rs 46,618 crore, and Rs 12,262 crore in March, April, May, June, July, and August respectively, data showed. (ANI)

How Higher GST On Online Gaming Is Impacting The Market Trends https://indiapost.com/how-higher-gst-on-online-gaming-is-impacting-the-market-trends/ Tue, 27 Feb 2024 15:39:26 +0000 https://indiapost.com/?p=190489 In the last 5 years, Indian online gaming organizations have generated at least 2.8 billion USD from investors across the world. Moreover, the expansion of this industry has also influenced employment positively, creating lakhs of direct and indirect jobs. However, the recent GST hike on India’s online gaming might impact the market trends significantly.

What is the GST increase on online gaming?

Previously, the rate of GST on online gaming was 18%. However, a ministry report issued in June 2022 suggested a hike in this rate. The ministry recommended a revision to fix the GST rate at 28%, which came into effect on 1st October 2023. This flat 28% GST applies to the whole amount an online gaming company receives from the player, irrespective of whether it is a chance-based or skill-based game. This rate is also applicable to horse racing and online casinos where new customers can claim this Bwin welcome bonus.

What are the potential impacts of higher GST?

The tax structure imposed by India’s apex body on online gaming has been touted as the harshest tax model in the world.

Levying 28% GST on the complete amount collected from players will impose an unnecessary tax burden on the online gaming market. It is likely to have widespread effects on India’s online gaming landscape, dealing a major blow to the sustainability and profitability of online gaming companies.

The GST increase might restrict the industry’s evolution and development by dwindling the profit margin of online gaming companies and deterring investors. Besides, gaming companies will now have to bear three times the tax burden, along with mandatory compliance costs.

Increasing the GST rate can potentially discourage players from online gaming since they will have to shell out 28% GST regardless of whether they win or lose. So ultimately, this will impact the growth of the online gaming sector.

However, this is only the partial picture since industry insiders are eyeing a bright future for India’s online gaming landscape.

How can higher GST impact market trends?

Those in leadership positions believe that online gaming in India will witness considerable changes and major trends even after this GST hike.

They assert that 2024 will see the rise and dominance of cloud gaming since it offers supreme convenience and security to players. Cloud technology will attract new gamers, eliminating the need for advanced gaming systems and democratizing access to sophisticated, immersive gaming experiences.

VR, AR, and Metaverse are also expected to play a pivotal role in reshaping the online gaming industry, creating a new generation of socially engaging and highly interactive games. The future of online gaming in India is expected to be highly dynamic and lucrative, with significant proliferation of competitive games, and e-sports strengthening its hold as a major force in the market.

While 28% GST will indeed pose a challenge, online gaming companies can overcome that and set new trends and benchmarks. Collectively, as these trends assume center stage, they point towards a future, where online gaming becomes more accessible to the masses, offering a more sophisticated and fulfilling gameplay experience.

Elon Musk slams Microsoft about windows 11’s account registeration https://indiapost.com/elon-musk-slams-microsoft-about-windows-11s-account-registeration/ Tue, 27 Feb 2024 08:47:55 +0000 https://indiapost.com/?p=190463 LOS ANGELES: Elon Musk dropped a complaint about his new laptop, which he said required him to register a Microsoft account to use it.

“Just bought a new PC laptop and it won’t let me use it unless I create a Microsoft account, which also means giving their AI access to my computer!” wrote Musk. “This is messed up. There used to be an option to skip signing into or creating a Microsoft account.”

Soon, however, a Community Note was added to the post, stating that he was incorrect. The Community Notes feature on X is a fact-checking tool that allows authors to give context to potentially misleading posts.

“It is still possible to set up the latest version of Windows without a Microsoft account,” read the note.

Community Notes is intended to operate through crowdsourcing. Anyone who has been using X for more than six months has not recently broken its rules and has a verified phone number is eligible to participate in the programme as a contributor.

On Sunday, Elon Musk was less impressed with his own Community Notes on X, as per Mashable. “Community Notes is failing here,” he wrote in a reply to his original post. “This option no longer exists.”

Amusingly, Musk’s response has now received another Community Note.

Musk also highlighted concerns about the potential access this offers to Microsoft’s AI in an X post, questioning the account’s requirement for fundamental operations.

He also indicated that Microsoft can turn off your computer, writing, “But since they now require that you use their services just to use your computer, @Microsoft can effectively shut off your computer!” (ANI)

Introduction to Cybersecurity in the Digital Age

Cybersecurity has evolved significantly over the past few decades as technology has advanced and become more integrated into our daily lives. Where cyber threats were once limited to hacking and malware, the digital landscape has expanded vulnerabilities through an always-on, always-connected world. Personal devices, cloud services, IoT, and more have created endless new entry points for bad actors. As a result, a user-centric approach focusing on prevention through intuitive design has become crucial. User experience and interface design now play a defining role in modern cyber defense. By prioritizing usability and awareness, security can be strengthened from the inside out through informed, educated users.

UI/UX in Cybersecurity: A Paradigm Shift

Cyber Security Certification programs have increasingly recognized the importance of user experience and interface design in cyber defense strategies. There has been a paradigm shift in how organizations approach cybersecurity, moving from a sole focus on technical controls to recognizing the central role users play. By prioritizing usability, comprehension, and awareness through interface design, security professionals can help users make better choices and take appropriate precautions. When users feel empowered through intuitive, helpful UX, they are more likely to follow protocols that strengthen overall cyber resilience. This redefined approach sees users not just as a weak point, but as critical allies that can bolster security when guided effectively.

The Human Factor: Understanding User Behavior

Understanding human behavior and decision-making is key to designing effective security solutions centered around users. Users do not always make perfectly rational choices and may take risks or ignore warnings out of habit, urgency, or ignorance. Traditional cybersecurity approaches often fail to acknowledge this human factor and that users would inevitably make mistakes.

However, with a deeper understanding of cognitive biases, emotional responses, and common errors, interfaces can be crafted to guide users toward secure behaviors and away from vulnerabilities. For example, nudges, warnings, and feedback can be designed based on principles from behavioral psychology to encourage the retention of security best practices. Data on how actual users interact also provides insights to tailor UX accordingly. This human-centered approach recognizes that users need supportive, helpful design to complement their digital skills and make security an intuitive part of their online activities.

Designing Intuitive Interfaces for Secure Interaction

When interfaces are intuitive and easy to use, they allow users to seamlessly adopt secure behaviors. Designing with usability and comprehension in mind helps avoid vulnerabilities stemming from confusion or frustration. Interfaces should clearly communicate security best practices and warnings through simple, jargon-free language tailored for varied skill levels. Visual cues, context-specific guidance, and feedback help users understand why certain actions may be risky.

Authentication processes can be streamlined with password managers or biometric login to reduce reliance on weak, reused credentials. Settings and controls are organized logically so users can easily access and adjust privacy and security options. Potential threats are addressed proactively with nudges to run updates, change passwords periodically, and be wary of suspicious links and attachments. An intuitive UX makes digital safety an effortless part of online activities.

Real-Time Threat Awareness through Intuitive Dashboards

By leveraging easy-to-understand dashboards, users can maintain real-time awareness of potential threats across their online accounts and devices. When designed intuitively, dashboards empower users with visibility into their network security status.

Here are the key points for Real-Time Threat Awareness through Intuitive Dashboards:

  • Customizable widgets: Dashboards allow users to add relevant widgets showing account activity, device locations, login attempts, etc. so they can customize their view of important security information.
  • At-a-glance metrics: Summary metrics like several logins this month or devices connected now let users immediately assess their network security status without digging into nested menus.
  • Simple visualization: Charts, maps, and color coding help users intuitively understand complex security data like geographic locations of login attempts or anomalous activity patterns.
  • Alert notifications: Prompt notifications of new sign-ins, failed logins, or other irregular events draw attention to potential issues in real time so users can quickly address threats.
  • Drill-down filters: Filters let users isolate specific timeframes, device types, or account details as needed to drill down and analyze alert events or activity history in more depth.
  • Benchmark comparisons: Comparing metrics to peer averages or personal history benchmarks helps users identify abnormal usage patterns that signify account compromise or suspicious internal network activity.

Balancing Security and Usability: Challenges and Solutions

While prioritizing usability and user comprehension is paramount, balancing it with effective security features poses challenges. Strict protocols may frustrate users and lead to workarounds, but lax security creates vulnerabilities. Designing intuitive interfaces that seamlessly embed security requires nuanced solutions. Multi-factor authentication provides robust protection, but additional steps could frustrate some. Notifications need to accurately discriminate between true threats and false alarms. Customization allows individual tailoring but complex options may confuse others. Striking the right equilibrium demands careful user research and testing different approaches to optimize both security outcomes and the overall experience.

Future Trends: Innovations in UI/UX for Cybersecurity

As technology evolves rapidly, user interface and experience design for cybersecurity must also continue innovating. Areas such as augmented and virtual reality show promise to immerse users in interactive security training simulations. Biometric authentication through fingerprints, facial recognition, or voiceprints could further streamline login processes. Advanced machine learning algorithms may personalize threat warnings even more based on individual online behaviors and emerging risks. Ambient UX displaying security status through connected home devices keeps data readily accessible. Blockchain integration could automate privacy-preserving data-sharing consent. The future of cyber defense will rely heavily on inventive UI/UX to keep people securely empowered in an increasingly digital world.

Conclusion

As the threat landscape evolves in tandem with emerging technologies, cybersecurity must also adapt. A user-centric approach focusing on prevention through intuitive UX has become paramount to modern defense strategies. When designed with usability, comprehension, and awareness in mind, interfaces can strengthen security from the inside out by empowering educated, informed users. Looking ahead, continued innovation in UI/UX will be critical to keep people securely navigating an always-connected digital world. Prioritizing the user experience will help redefine cybersecurity as a collaborative effort between security professionals and engaged, proactive individuals.

Indian stocks start fresh week on a muted note https://indiapost.com/indian-stocks-start-fresh-week-on-a-muted-note/ Mon, 05 Feb 2024 05:15:00 +0000 https://indiapost.com/?p=190006 NEW DELHI: Indian stock indices kicked off a fresh week on a muted note. On Friday, it rose over 500 points after the central government as part of its Budget showed intent that it was aiming for fiscal consolidation even as the General elections are around the corner.

At the opening bell Monday, Sensex was at 72,022 points, down 63 points or 0.1 per cent, and Nifty at 21,850 points, down 4 points or 0.01 per cent.

On Budget Day – February 1, Indian stock indices took a rollercoaster ride and settled marginally in the red.

Analysts had said dampening performance in the indices could be due to below-expected capital expenditure markup in the Budget document and the US Fed’s unclear guidance on loosening the monetary policy stance. Some, however, attributed it to mild profit booking.

The broader market indices, Sensex and Nifty, were in the green at the opening bell on February 1, but as the day progressed and with the tabling of the budget, they edged towards the red.

Going ahead into this week, investors will keep track on the three-day RBI monetary policy meeting that starts Tuesday. The RBI typically conducts six bimonthly meetings in a financial year, where it deliberates interest rates, money supply, inflation outlook, and various macroeconomic indicators.

In its December meeting, the RBI unanimously decided to keep the policy repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent, thus maintaining the status quo for the fifth straight time.

The Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its February review meeting is expected to again put a pause on the repo rate, according to SBI Research. The repo rate is the rate of interest at which RBI lends to other banks.

Barring the latest pauses, the RBI raised the repo rate by 250 basis points cumulatively to 6.5 per cent since May 2022 in the fight against inflation. Raising interest rates is a monetary policy instrument that typically helps suppress demand in the economy, thereby helping the inflation rate decline.

The retail inflation in India though is in RBI’s 2-6 per cent comfort level but is above the ideal 4 per cent scenario. In December, it was 5.69 per cent. (ANI)

Poker Psychology: Understanding the Mental Game and Player Mindsets https://indiapost.com/poker-psychology-understanding-the-mental-game-and-player-mindsets/ Fri, 02 Feb 2024 04:02:01 +0000 https://indiapost.com/?p=189840 The beauty of poker lies in the skills that it demands. Apart from your card skills, you must be a masterful observer of body language, psychology, patterns and even mathematics. Poker is simple in terms of the rules, but these are some, if not all, of the skills you must master to excel in it.

If you explore the psychological side of this fascinating card game, several aspects stand out.

Masters in Psychology

If you have understood the poker rules, it is time for you to hone the psychological side of the game. A deep understanding of the poker rules will give you much-needed technical proficiency. But you also have to read your opponent’s mind and have some restraint over yours as well. Based on the tells that you spot in your opponent, you must decide in a flash and collaborate with other players if required.

Fortunately for you, a lot of research has been done on the importance of psychology in poker games. Poker phenomena like tilts and variances are an outcome of these studies that have made it much easier to compartmentalise various aspects of the poker game and understand them better. So, if you are looking to become a poker pro, it is time to study the psychological side of the game in greater detail.

Tilting to Success

Tilt is something that occurs when a poker player undergoes stress or irritation, often as a result of a series of bad luck or losses. Tilt causes the person to lose composure and behave irrationally. This results in impulsive decision-making in the poker game, thus compounding the miseries further. As a poker player, you are supposed to identify tilt in yourself and your opponent. If you are tilting towards a tilt, it is time to regain composure and act rationally. If you are clinical enough to spot someone else’s tilt, you can make the most of the situation.

Tilt can form out of anger, frustration or revenge. As a result of the tilt, the player’s gameplay becomes a departure from their optimal strategy. If tilt overpowers you, you may experience a faster heartbeat and signs of impatience and irritability. It is better to take a break or at least a deep breath if you find yourself under the spell of a tilt.

Seeing Through the Bluffs

Someone on your poker table would inevitably try to mislead some or all of the other opponents through body language. Bluffing is the art of pretending to have a better poker hand than you actually do. It could be a confusing situation for the opponents as the player (a) is bluffing or (b) actually withhas a strong poker hand.

You can apply bluffing to your advantage by manipulating your opponent’s thought process. Doing so will create a false perception that you are playing with a strong poker hand, even if you are not. Do remember that you may be using reverse psychology in poker as well, where your act of bluffing makes it difficult for the opponents to read the strength of your poker hand.

Tell Tale Signs

Sometimes, you may be looking around for the truth while it may be staring at your face. In poker, a tell is the most apparent way of knowing the situation your opponent is in. A tell is a physical or behavioural cue that gives insight into the opponent’s mind. It could be a sharp draw of breath, curling of the eyebrows, a nervous tick and so on.

If your opponent is hesitating in making decisions, it could mean that he has a weak poker hand. Or he could be bluffing. On the other hand, if your opponent is making fast decisions, he may have a strong hand. However, even in this case, the opponent could be bluffing. So, you have to balance your reading of the game by taking into account all of these factors, be it tilt, bluff, tell or something else.

Preparing Yourself for the Win

As you master poker rules and the psychological aspects of the game, you must also prepare yourself to adorn a winning mindset. Rather than playing with a casual approach, you can start by setting achievable goals for yourself. It could be as simple as winning 5% more funds than yesterday. Or never to lose more than a certain sum during the day. You must develop the mental endurance to last through the trials and tribulations of a series of poker games. There may be times when you may concede several defeats in a row. In such situations, you must be able to remain calm under pressure.

Online gaming platforms offer poker in a technologically enhanced avatar. This will not only enhance the poker game experience for you but also test your cognitive and psychological skills. As a result, developing a winning mentality is becoming even more important for achieving success in poker.

Budget 2024: No change in taxation proposed https://indiapost.com/budget-2024-no-change-in-taxation-proposed/ Thu, 01 Feb 2024 08:11:56 +0000 https://indiapost.com/?p=189833 NEW DELHI: As expected and in relief for the citizens, the central government neither tweaked nor put any additional tax burden on citizens, in the interim Budget for 2024-25 tabled by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

“Keeping with the convention, I do not propose to make any changes relating to taxation and propose to retain the same tax rates for direct taxes and indirect taxes including import duties,” Sitharaman said in her Budget speech on Thursday.

However, certain tax benefits to start-ups and investments made by sovereign wealth or pension funds as well as tax exemption on certain income of some IFSC units are expiring in March 2024. To provide continuity in taxation, she proposed to extend the date by another year.

Moreover, in line with the government’s vision to improve ease of living and ease of doing business, she announced to improve tax-payer services.

“There are a large number of petty, non-verified, non-reconciled or disputed direct tax demands, many of them dating as far back as the year 1962, which continue to remain on the books, causing anxiety to honest tax-payers and hindering refunds of subsequent years,” she said.

She proposed to withdraw such outstanding direct tax demands up to Rs 25,000 for the period up to financial year 2009-10 and up to Rs 10,000 for financial years 2010-11 to 2014-15.

“This is expected to benefit about a crore tax-payers,” she added.

Presenting the Union Budget 2023, Sitharaman on Thursday pegged the fiscal deficit target for 2024-25 at 5.1 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP).

In 2023-24, the government pegged the fiscal deficit target for 2023-24 at 5.9 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP). Today, Sitharaman said that the fiscal deficit of 2023-24 was downwardly revised to 5.8 per cent.

The difference between total revenue and total expenditure of the government is termed as fiscal deficit. It is an indication of the total borrowings that may be needed by the government.

The government intends to bring the fiscal deficit below 4.5 per cent of GDP by the financial year 2025-26.

The government intends to bring the fiscal deficit below 4.5 per cent of GDP by the financial year 2025-26. A capital expenditure, or capex, is used to set up long-term physical or fixed assets.

Last year, which was the last full Budget under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s second term, the government proposed to increase capital expenditure outlay by 33 per cent to Rs 10 lakh crore in 2023-24, which was estimated to be 3.3 per cent of the GDP.

With the substantial increase in capex, it is central to the government’s efforts to enhance growth potential and job creation, crowd in private investments and provide a cushion against global headwinds.

The interim budget, tabled today, will take care of the financial needs of the intervening period until a government is formed after the Lok Sabha polls after which a full budget will be presented by the new government in July.

With this Budget Presentation, Sitharaman equalled the record set by former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, who as finance minister, presented five annual budgets and one interim budget between 1959 and 1964.

The Budget Session of Parliament commenced on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The Indian economy is projected to grow close to 7 per cent in the financial year 2024-25 which starts this April, said the Ministry of Finance in a review report.

India’s economy grew 7.2 per cent in 2022-23 and 8.7 per cent in 2021-22. The Indian economy is expected to grow 7.3 per cent in the current financial year 2023-24, remaining the fastest-growing major economy. (ANI)

Investing in Peace: The Benefits of Term Insurance Plans https://indiapost.com/investing-in-peace-the-benefits-of-term-insurance-plans/ Thu, 01 Feb 2024 07:13:34 +0000 https://indiapost.com/?p=189825 In the chaos of our daily lives, financial security often takes a backseat. Amidst the demands of work, family, and various responsibilities, it’s easy to overlook the importance of establishing a solid financial foundation. However, understanding and prioritising financial security is paramount for achieving long-term stability and peace of mind. Whether it’s planning, building an emergency fund, or navigating the complexities of investments, taking proactive steps towards financial well-being is crucial. While we invest in various avenues to secure our future, one aspect that is crucial and sometimes overlooked is life insurance. Among the diverse range of insurance products available, term insurance plans stand out as a powerful tool for ensuring financial protection and peace of mind.

What is Term Insurance?

A term insurance plan is a straightforward and cost-effective form of life insurance that provides coverage for a specific period, known as the policy term. Unlike other life insurance products, term plans do not include a savings or investment component, making them more affordable and focused on pure protection. The policy pays out a death benefit to the nominee in the event of the policyholder’s demise during the term.

What is the Mechanism of Term Insurance?

This simplicity makes term insurance plans a popular choice for those seeking basic protection without additional complexities. Let’s explore how term insurance works and why it may suit your needs.

  • Basics of Term Insurance: It is a pure form of life insurance with coverage for a predetermined period or “term.” The goal is to provide a death benefit to beneficiaries if the policyholder passes away during this period.
  • Premiums and Payouts: Term insurance is known for its affordability due to the absence of cash value accumulation. Premiums are generally lower compared to permanent life insurance. Regular premiums maintain coverage, and if the policyholder dies during the term, beneficiaries receive a lump sum death benefit.
  • Flexibility and Renewability: Term insurance offers flexibility in coverage and duration. Policies may allow conversion to permanent life insurance later, adapting to changing circumstances. Some also provide the option to renew coverage at the term’s end, though premiums may increase based on age and health.
  • Determining Coverage Amount: Calculating the right coverage is vital. Factors like outstanding debts, future financial needs, and dependents’ well-being should be considered. Choosing a coverage amount ensures financial security for loved ones in the event of the policyholder’s unexpected demise.

What are the Benefits of Term Insurance?

Financial Protection for Loved Ones

A term insurance plan acts as a safety net for your family, ensuring that they are financially secure in case of your untimely demise. The death benefit received by your nominees can cover outstanding debts, daily living expenses, and even long-term financial goals like your children’s education or marriage.

Affordability and High Coverage Amounts

Term plans offer high coverage at comparatively lower premiums. This affordability makes it feasible for individuals to opt for substantial coverage, providing a financial cushion that can adequately support their family’s needs and aspirations.

Flexibility in Policy Duration

Term insurance plans come with various policy terms, allowing individuals to choose the duration that aligns with their financial goals and responsibilities. Whether you want coverage until your retirement, your children’s independence, or any other milestone, term plans offer the flexibility to tailor the policy duration to your specific needs.

Critical Illness Riders

Many term insurance plans provide the option to add critical illness riders. These riders offer additional coverage for specific life-threatening illnesses, ensuring that you and your family are protected not only in the case of death but also in the event of a severe health setback.

Tax Benefits

Term insurance plans come with tax advantages under Section 80C and Section 10(10D) of the Income Tax Act. The premiums paid are eligible for deduction under Section 80C, and the death benefit received by the nominee is tax-free under Section 10(10D). This dual benefit makes term insurance an attractive option for tax planning.

Peace of Mind

The primary purpose of term insurance plans is to provide peace of mind. Knowing that your loved ones will be financially secure even in your absence can alleviate stress and allow you to focus on living a fulfilling life without constant worry about the uncertainties of the future.

Tips for Choosing the Right Term Insurance Plan

Assessing Coverage Needs

Before diving into the world of term insurance, take the time to evaluate your coverage needs. Consider your family’s lifestyle, future goals, and outstanding financial obligations. This assessment will guide you in determining the appropriate coverage amount.

Duration of Coverage

Selecting the right term length is crucial. Factor in your life stages, such as raising a family or planning for retirement. opt for a duration that aligns with your financial responsibilities and explore options for renewability and convertibility to adapt to changing circumstances.

Researching Insurance Providers

Not all insurance providers are created equal. When choosing a term insurance plan, prioritise reputable companies with a track record of financial stability and prompt claim settlements. Customer reviews and expert opinions can serve as valuable resources in making an informed decision.
